While travelling, we may be brought into a situation where we might need to have a checked baggage and a carry-on (some may call it a
hand-carry luggage or even a cabin baggage). In that case, it's important to know which items to pack.
A carry-on is a baggage that you will keep with you throughout your journey. When a complication occurs (delayed flight, lost baggage, and so on), I know I'm glad to have chosen the right stuff to throw in my bag.
What sould I pack in my carry-on?
Given my past experiences with delayed luggage, here are the basic items I ALWAYS keep close to me:
-
My phone, my laptop, my passport (and ID), and my wallet (but that's quite obvious)
-
Chargers: phone, batteries, laptop, basically every charger. Running out of battery when you know your luggage have already been checked-in is the last thing you'd want to happen
- A voltage converter, preferably a universal one
- Earphones
-
Toiletries : toothbrush, hairbrush
-
Expensive valuables like jewellery. I would definitely not recommend travelling with those though.
- A PEN and a notebook
- 2 to 3 pairs of extra underwear
For long journeys, I like to keep a relatively flat waist pouch securely tied around me and hidden under my clothes. In there, I can keep my cash, my credit card and my passport. That way, I know they're constantly with me and there is no risk of losing anything important. When you need to take it off for a checkpoint, put it inside your carry-on first, and not directly on the tray.

Is there anything else I should pack?
Regarding comfort, there are some other few things I like to keep with me, such as:
- Tissue paper
- Wipes (hand wipes, facial wipes, and so on)
- Eye mask
- Ear plugs
- 1 or 2 extra outfits
- A pair of extra socks
- Prescription medicine
- Aspirin (before a long flight)
- An empty water bottle
I also like to have a little checklist done before leaving, you can use the same as me, you can download the fillable PDF file right here :
