A few months ago, I made a promise to my younger sister, telling her that if she managed to pass with good grades, I would take her to London. It turned out that she had excellent grades. So this is how I ended up travelling for the first time with my little sister in London, and how it turned out to be a wonderful experience, for both of us.
Departure: Lyon Part-Dieu.
Destination: London St Pancras International.
We had the chance to take the Eurostar train, that took about an hour and a half to arrive in London, from Lille (Northern France).
One of the perks of taking the Eurostar was that we arrived at the centre of London, St Pancras station. There was no hassle for us such as getting a train or a bus to reach our final destination, our youth hostel near Great Portland Street.
What I loved the most
The people
Londoners (and I think it applies to most British people) are very phlegmatic people. They seem to be cool with everything. As a French person, that was the first thing I had noticed the moment I arrived.
The transportation
Thanks to the well organised transportation system, it was very easy to go around London. Taxis were not that expensive and the tube is a faster alternative to buses. Although, before leaving France, I made sure to get an Oyster card for both my sister and I. Otherwise, it would've cost me an arm and a leg to go around, and all the walking would've made my feet numb by now.
Phone booths
Because they're fabulous.
