7 REASONS TO LOVE THE PHILIPPINES

Things to love about the Philippines

There are many things to love about the Philippines. I shall try to sum them up in this article.

N°1: Filipino people
They’re just lovely. Everytime I step out of the plane, whether I land in Ninoy Aquino Airport (Manila) or Mactan Airport (Cebu), it’s always the same feeling. The climate is warm, but definitely not as warm as the filipino smiles welcoming me. They’re kind, polite and you can always count on them if you ever need a hand.
Filipinos are amazingly chill and patient people. They can spend hours in "stand-by", gathering with friends and/or doing absolutely nothing.

N°2: Landscapes
From white sand beaches with clear waters and coral reefs to verdant mountains rich in vegetation, there are so many landscapes to admire in the Philippines.

N°3: Food

Filipino cuisine isn’t well known all over the world, unlike Chinese, Vietnamese, Indian or Turkish cuisine. I have to admit that the filipino diet is not the healthiest one: there are a lot of deep fried foods, very sweet desserts and so on.
Rice is everywhere. Taking rice away from the Philippines is like taking bread away from France. Food can be found anywhere (especially if you stay in a city like Cebu or Manila).
A MUST TRY:
Filipino style pork barbecue
Puso Rice
Chicken adobo
Lechon
Mango supreme
Halo-halo
Mango shake
Buko juice

If you're not much of a meat lover, that's alright, fish in the Philippines is a delight (knowing that there are numerous islands; it's quite easy to find seafood).
There is a wide variety of fruits and I have a huge crush on the amazingly sweet and tender Filipino mangoes. If ever you have the opportunity, please, GRAB ONE (as a dietitian, it also makes me feel better to throw in some fruits in the food section of this article).

N°4: The festivals
Whether it's for the Sinulog in Cebu or the Masskara in Bacolod, there will always be a festival rythm which you can dance to.

N°5: The lifestyle
As Filipinos are always up for anything, it's very easy to find someone to go out with.
You can also wear flipflops all day, only because of the warm weather and that it's such a hassle to get dressed up just to buy some eggs at the local convenience store.

N°6: Parties, weddings and fiestas
Mostly for the food.

N°7: The family spirit
One thing that I really appreciate in the Philippines is the respect filipino people show to the elderly. There will always be a son, a daughter, a cousin, a niece, to take care of the eldest in the family.

Until next time...
